Our vision & mission

Why we built Playful Pause

A generation that commands their screens, instead of being commanded by them.

The vision

Screens are engineered to be hard to put down, and childhood is paying the price. Playful Pause exists to change that: to help raise a generation that grows up in command of their devices instead of captive to them.

We picture a world where stepping away from a screen is something kids choose on their own, and where parents no longer have to fight a daily battle to make it happen.

The problem

Kids are meant to get about two hours of screen time a day. But a child can spend two hours on an iPad, two more on a Nintendo Switch, and two more on a gaming PC, and a parent has to log into three separate parental-control systems just to see it, let alone stop it.

The limits are scattered, the dashboards are hostile, and there's always a next screen to move to. Meanwhile, the apps themselves are built to maximize time spent, not time well spent.

The mission

To give every family one calm, simple place to manage screen time across all of a child's devices, and to design technology that helps kids step away on their own, not by force.

We put parents in control from a single app, however many devices a child uses. And we help kids build self-control by reflecting their own screen time back to them, warning them gently before time runs out, and grounding every nudge in current child-development research. Our aim is to make the healthy limit the easy one: simple for parents to set, and natural for kids to keep.
